Affordable Teeth Whitening Options

By Tom Tipton

In the teeth whitening world of today, there are literally dozens of affordable teeth whitening products. And that's a good thing too because not everyone can afford to take the time and spend the money on a dental office visit to whiten their teeth. A whitening treatment from your dentist could cost $300.00 or more so having lower-priced options that you can use yourself in your own home can save you a bundle.

Bear in mind that the full-fledged dental treatment will offer you the best results possible. You'll get the maximum amount of whitening in the minimum amount of time in your dentist's chair. But you can still achieve some great results on your own too. You just need to be a little more patient. Here are some of your options.

Let's start off with home dental whitening trays. These are the kind of trays that resemble the mouthpieces worn by athletes. They're specially made to hold dental bleaching gels and to fit comfortably around your teeth and gums. When they're made right, they'll form a tight seal and won't leak. This is the same method used by many dentists for their in-office treatments.

The active ingredient in the gel is a form of peroxide which you can buy in levels of from 10% up to 35%. The higher the percentage, the more whitening power it has. You'll need a set of two reusable trays and some whitening gel to get started. And you can find a complete set for somewhere between $50.00 to $100.00.

Another home whitening method is the brush-on method. When you use this technique, you actually "paint your teeth" with a whitening solution using a tiny brush or pen-like device. It's not unlike the way nail polish is applied. Once it's applied, the solution dries and solidifies on the tooth so its bleaching effects can work. These brush devices usually come with a much weaker peroxide solution (say around 5%) so it will take longer than other methods to see results. But on the plus side, they're super convenient and travel well. These home whitening devices will cost in the neighborhood of $30.00 to $50.00.

The last whitening method we'll look at is the tape/strip method. With this technique you apply a thin tape-like strip directly to your upper and/or lower teeth. The strip is embedded with a peroxide gel - anywhere from 3% to 14% depending on the product. And as the strip sticks to your teeth, the gel is allowed to cover your teeth and do its work. Most "whitening kits" come with one to two week's worth of strips and require one or two sessions each day to improve your smile. They're about as convenient as any at home teeth whitening can get and the price is right too - between $30.00 and $60.00 for a single kit.

So you see, you don't have to pay a lot of money and suffer the inconvenience of going to a dentist to whiten your teeth. There are plenty of affordable teeth whitening options you can pick up at your local drug store. They work slower than the dentist but they're definitely more affordable. - 29879
