A Brief Overview Of Cosmetic Dentistry

By Edward Jacobsen

There are many types of cosmetic dentistry available today. Individuals have the option to have a procedure done that will provide them with a more comfortable smile. Or, they may decide to address an issue with their teeth that has been present since childhood and seek the assistance of cosmetic dentistry.

Many of these people choose a smile makeover. A cosmetic dentist is able to repair and manipulate the teeth to provide a person with a brighter smile through the use of many unique methods and procedures. The procedures address issues such as stained teeth, crooked teeth, broken teeth, and other problems that have caused an individual to have low self esteem.

During an examination, the dentist will look at all of the problems that the patient has discussed with them. In addition, they will also look at issues that may be causing those problems. In some cases the cosmetic dentist will find a root cause for an issue that can be addressed through a few simple procedures. When completed the problem that the person had will not return.

In many cases there will be several different treatment plans available based on the budget of the individual seeking treatment. An individual may need extensive treatment for an important issue or only need to have their teeth whitened. The dentist will be able to break each treatment option down into a structure that will provide the patient with the treatment they need in a way that will fit an individual's budget.

A smile makeover can include porcelain and ceramic inlays, crowns, implants, porcelain laminate veneers, porcelain jackets, gingival sculpting, and composite bonding. In many cases the dentist will be able to perform most of the work required using modern equipment such as lasers.

The final step in a smile makeover is usually a teeth whitening process. The treatment is usually accomplished in one or two visits. It involves the use of equipment and materials that has been especially designed to provide an individual with the whitest teeth possible. This treatment removes any yellowing or staining from the teeth and lasts for several months.

Some of the procedures done by cosmetic dentists can take several weeks or months to accomplish. Other procedures, such as teeth whitening can be accomplished in one or two office visits. When one is deciding on the type of dentist that will be best for them, it is important to find one who specializes in the specific needs of the individual.

Cosmetic dentists are more specialized than a regular dentist and often provide procedures that are not available in a regular dental office. There are many cosmetic dental procedures that require the dentist have special training and equipment to perform. Having cosmetic dentistry performed by a qualified dentist who is skilled in their field will give one the results that they are seeking. - 29879
