A person who is said to work in the field of orthodontics is still a part of a dentistry branch. However, this particular branch of dentistry involves straightening of the teeth and fixing any ailments that may be causing abnormalities in the mouth.

The duties that an orthodontists assistant will be asked to fulfill are vast. One duty that they must fulfill is the set-up of an office for an incoming patient. They are held liable for ensuring that a doctor has the correct instruments that they need in order to assist a patient with their qualms.

Set up also includes ensuring that rinsing cups are full as well as laying out the paper coverings for the patient's tray that they will be using. Without the assistant assuring that everything is where it needs to be an orthodontist may find their job to be a lot more daunting than it has to be.

But, an orthodontics assistants duties do not cease at set up. Most assistants are required to have an adamant amount of knowledge about teeth straightening procedures. In fact, the assistants most times are responsible for taking the x-rays that a doctor will need as well as diagnosing the severity of the mouth condition of the person that is being looked at.

An assistant is also the one that is responsible for making plastic casts of the patient's mouths in order to assure that the retainers that will be placed in their mouths will be able to fit this area precisely. The assistants will also be required to keep the office clean after a patient leaves it is their job to ensure that everything is disinfected and ready for the next patient.

Some offices require assistants to also fill secretarial roles. Assistants will be required to phone patients, answer the phone and set up appointments. Obviously if you are opting to obtain a career as an assistant to an orthodontist you need to ensure that you are up for doing everything that is required.
